Hello Neighbors is a response to the gentrification of my Southeast Portland neighborhood. In my last months living in a house that was eventually replaced by expensive condos, I wanted to celebrate the neighborhood I called home. With crude and simple advertisements, I highlighted aspects of the community landscape that were often overlooked, such as neighbors’ chickens peeking out from the fence, an old payphone converted into a public art project, and my own house, a relic from the end of the 19th century. This public signage promoted the aspects of my neighborhood that the community built and shared for free.
