Stalking is a serious and chronic form of harassment. Research about the impact of stalking is relatively recent. Previous research on stalking has focused upon psychological characteristics of stalking behaviours, an orientation focused on specific aspects of the law or a focus on the incidence rates of stalking victimisation across the community. However, there is little research on the actual experiences of stalking from victims and in particular language as a psychological assault. This research seeks to raise awareness of the harmful effects of abusive language that is often kept private.
